Menad

If you're wandering down High Street in Billericay and your stomach gives a hopeful rumble, Menad is exactly the kind of place you’d want to stumble upon. Nestled at 7 High St, CM12 9BE, this laid-back Turkish-Mediterranean spot effortlessly bridges homestyle warmth and big-flavor drama. Whether you're after a quick bite or a drawn-out dinner over cocktails, Menad brings that satisfying hit of authenticity with a modern twist.

First things first, the menu here isn’t playing around. For those who worship lamb, you're spoiled. The Lamb Beyti-tender, seasoned minced lamb wrapped in flatbread, slathered in yogurt and tomato sauce-is a solid crowd-pleaser that balances richness and tang. Then there’s the Lamb Kulbasti, which delivers thinly sliced marinated lamb grilled to smoky perfection. It’s all about the char here, and they nail it.

If you lean toward chicken, the Chicken Shish with Yogurt packs bold spices and a creamy finish, while the grilled Chicken Wings (yes, they do them right) are surprisingly addictive. Vegetarians, don't scroll past just yet-Halloumi makes a strong appearance, seared until golden and often paired with salad or grilled veggies for that salty-soft contrast.

A standout dish that deserves its own spotlight? Kleftico. This slow-cooked lamb shank falls off the bone with a gentle prod, bathed in herbs and oven-roasted for hours. It’s a dish that whispers comfort food but sings in Greek.

Appetizers here are more than just warm-ups. Tarama, the pink-hued fish roe dip, brings a briny punch when paired with fresh bread, and the Garlic Prawns arrive sizzling, fragrant, and unapologetically garlicky. Even the simple Scampi has its place-crispy, golden, served with a wedge of lemon and a nostalgic nod to pub fare.

Dessert? Don’t think about skipping it. Their Baklava with Ice Cream is the kind of end-of-meal decision you pat yourself on the back for-crunchy, syrupy layers of pastry with the cool contrast of vanilla. It’s also worth noting: Menad isn’t afraid to go sweet and rich, and they deliver consistently on the dessert front.

Beyond the food, Menad’s vibe is what makes it effortlessly likeable. It’s relaxed enough for a solo lunch and polished enough for a Saturday dinner date. The seating is comfortable, the lighting just dim enough, and the staff? Friendly without being in your face. They offer dine-in, delivery, and takeaway options-so whether you want a long meal or just a cozy dinner in your living room, you’re covered.

Beverage-wise, you’ve got choices. From crisp beer and classic cocktails to halal-friendly options and coffee for the post-meal wind-down, there’s a good range that matches the broad flavor profile of the menu. Wine lovers will also find a modest but thoughtful selection to sip alongside meat-heavy plates.

Menad also appeals to the late-night crowd, offering healthy options and small plates, which makes it perfect if you're grazing rather than feasting. That said, the portions here are generous-don’t expect to leave hungry.

Ultimately, what sets Menad apart is its ability to bring that traditional Turkish warmth and flavor into a space that feels familiar and easy to settle into. It doesn’t scream for attention. It just delivers, quietly and confidently. The kind of place you find once-and keep coming back to.

Had dinner at Menad on a whim. Service was great although not busy. Surprisingly the bottle of Merlot was really good. Calamari to share, also very well cooked, not tough. Basket of bread was gorgeous as was the 2 dips of chilli sauce and a garlicky yoghurt one. OH had Kleftico & separate bowl of rice in a spicy sauce which he said was very nice. I had 4 pieces of lamb fillet with a sauce and rice & salad. Had some baklava with ice cream for dessert which was beautiful. Some proper Turkish delight was brought up with the bill, which you can’t beat. A lovely meal, plenty on the plate and very good friendly service & would recommend & return.

Eddie and staff were exceptionally kind. I recommend the combination lamb and chicken kebab plate. Delicious. The lamb shank was also good.
